Innovative way to promote romance genre at your local
library.
Catchy Display
Any display with a cleverly worded title and a bit of color
to grab reader's attention could be effective.
Titles could include; In the mood for love? The Love Bug, Addicted to
Love, etc. The title would stand out if the signage has eye-popping colors such
as pink or bold purples and graphics that readers' would associate with love. Free bookmarks with romantic sub-genre
suggestions are always helpful to inspire readers' to try works by unfamiliar
authors and/or different formats.
Passive
Programming
Passive programming strategies could include trivia handouts
about famous authors, characters or quotes.
Library patrons could also write down their favorite romance story and
add a summary and why the story is their favorite to share with other readers.
In what ways could
you incorporate integrated advisory?
Create a display focusing on romance genre and sub-genres.
The "If you like..., Then try..." title could be used to cross into
different genres and formats. For
instance, if a patron watched or read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, they
might want to pick up the original Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen and
give it a try or if they read Nora Roberts books, they might want to try her romantic suspense novels written under
her J.D. Robb pseudonym.
Pretend you're
pitching an idea to your boss and write a paragraph in your prompt response.
I would like to place an integrated advisory display to
promote the romance genre. The display
will include books, talking books, and DVD's wrapped in brown paper. On the front of each wrapped item will
include the first line or catch phrase from the book or movie. The patron could then take the book to the
circulation and check it out. They are
free to return the book if they are not interested after unwrapping the item. To ensure greater appeal, the items could be
organized in groups with a brief description of the sub-genre: gentle reads,
historical, suspense, romantic comedy etc. This will give the reader the option
of not straying into an area they are not comfortable. The flip side is they
might choose something outside their comfort zone and cross over into a new
sub-genre or format.
Cynthia, your responses were thorough and well thought out. I especially appreciated how you incorporated integrated advisory.
